Eye of a Photo Editor: MASTER CLASS with Kira Pollack

SPD offers you an amazing opportunity (again! and again!) with the Master Class--this time, to spend a day with TIME Magazine Director of Photography, Kira Pollack.

Spend SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3rd with Kira as she gives YOU an extremely exclusive opportunity to learn and to not only be inspired, but also to ask all the questions you want and push back on the answers. Show some of your own work. Address some of your most pressing challenges. Find out how she gets it done...and frankly, how you begin to do the same! After this 1-day intensive workshop, you'll have a new mentor, a deeper professional network, and a broader skill-set to take to work on Monday morning.

Reserve your seat for EYE OF A PHOTO EDITOR now; the class is limited to the first 10 lucky students.

ABOUT KIRA:

Kira oversees the photographic vision of TIME, TIME.com and all digital media. In October  2011, she was named the photo editor of the year at the Lucie Awards. Since Pollack joined TIME in October 2009, the brand’s photography has been recognized with many prestigious awards including the World Press photo of the Year, and the Visa D’Or award at Visa Pour l’Image. In March 2011, she established TIME’s photography site LightBox, which is dedicated to the culture of images and provides a forum for conversation on photography. Pollack also spearheaded TIME’s Beyond 9/11 project, which included 40 portraits coupled with oral histories, a special commemorative issue, microsite, documentary in association with HBO and gallery exhibition. Previously, Pollack was the deputy photo editor for The New York Times Magazine. During her 11-year tenure, she produced the Oscars portfolio from 2004-2009 and Obama’s people in 2009 under Kathy Ryan. She was also the photo editor of Play, the Times’ sports magazine.

**A note about workshop materials: you will need to bring your own laptop to the workshop in order to complete the workshop assignments that day.

DECEMBER 3, 2011

These classes are an exclusive opportunity for access to some of the greatest professionals working in our community today. Registration is open to SPD Professional Members only; you may join or renew your membership along with registration here if you need to. The day-long class begins at 8:30AM and runs through 3:00PM.

ABOUT THE SPD MASTER CLASS SERIES:

Our goal: an exclusive workshop providing inspiration, education, hands-on skills to SPD members through intimate access to well-respected, award-ridden, top-dog design professionals. After this 1-day intensive workshop, you'll have a new mentor, a deeper professional network, and a broader skill-set to take to work on Monday morning.

Our plan: mentors will lead each 1-day workshop offering critical analysis of one of their areas of expertise, using samples of their own work as case study examples to provide insight into the editorial process and to highlight the key factors that shape their body of work. Each workshop will include conversations about and experiences with the brainstorming process, how to collaborate with editors, keys to proactive leadership, dealing with deadlines, working within and around your budget, great research techniques, and more. The intensive seminar day is centered around in-class exercises, offering participants the opportunity to learn from an intimate community of colleagues and under the supervision and influence of a great mentor.

The day begins with breakfast approximately 8:30am, includes a catered lunch, and will end approximately 3:00pm.
